Ararat LGA Profile 2011

The data comes from the VicHealth Indicators Survey 2011, which has a focus on social determinants of health. It complements other population health survey work conducted in Victoria.

Data was collected through telephone interviews.

The survey was conducted in each of Victoria’s 79 LGAs, with a total sample of 25,075 participants aged 18 and over.

The Shire has a population of slightly less than one person per square kilometre.

The purpose of the Municipal Health and Wellbeing Plan is to protect, improve and promote public health and wellbeing within Horsham Rural City. In doing so, the plan identifies health and wellbeing priority issues and needs of the Horsham community. Population

The populations of Hindmarsh, West Wimmera and Yarriambiack were characterised by declining population growth, a very high proportion of population aged 40 years and over, and a very low proportion of Indigenous population or of persons born in other countries. The key characteristics of the Horsham RC population were very similar to regional Victoria averages.

Socio-economic status

Review of data covering income levels, centrelink payment recipients, education participation, labour force participation and unemployment rates, indicate that socioeconomic disadvantage is largely focused in Hindmarsh and Yarriambiack and these locations...
